Alternative sources of power have been a national agenda for a long time, with Ghana’s energy department looking for alternatives to supporting the already highly depended on hydro-electric power. Unfortunately, rural communities have been abandoned in this discussion. This has resorted to rural communities depending on crude means like firewood to get light. Taimako has seen the stalling in energy supply to these rural communities and looks to supply 100 solar lamps to rural communities to support their activities in an initiative dubbed Illuminate. This especially goes on to support school-going children who will need a prudent source of light for their studies at night. Solar lamps provide a good alternative to the hydro-electric power and can bring light to a lot of rural homes once implemented.
